Internship Opportunities: Kalispell & Missoula

The internship position is an opportunity to dive into public relations and learn the basics while supporting either our Kalispell or Missoula teams (internships are available in both offices). An intern with Big Sky Public Relations can expect to assist with multiple clients and events and to perform additional administrative functions. At Big Sky Public Relations, our interns get to dive into client service, work with the public, attend and help staff events, research, and provide media relations and social media strategy support in order to deliver integrated communications campaigns to our clients.

Big Sky Public Relations interns have great organizational skills, pay exceptional attention to detail, and have the strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks on an ongoing basis to support our team. They have a superior work ethic and excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Interns have a drive to learn and advance their skills in the competitive market of public relations and communications.

Responsibilities -Perform research and market analysis activities. -Interface with community partners and the general public to support clients. -Draft press kit documents as well as news releases, pitch letters, bylines, website content and blogs for Big Sky PR and its clients. -Develop internal documents such as manuals or handbooks. -Assist in drafting proposals, copywriting and proofreading. -Assist with press tour and trade show schedules and appointments. -Keep abreast of each client’s industry, competition and coverage -Provide client communication support as requested. -General administrative duties as needed such as greeting clients and guests, answering phones, office errands or light housekeeping.

Requirements

-Strong desire to learn with personal drive to provide amazing service to clients. -Excellent verbal and non-verbal communications skills. -Comfortable engaging with the public. -Recent graduate or current student studying public relations, journalism, business, political science or other related field. Junior-level status or higher preferred. -Proficient in Microsoft Office; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite appreciated but not required. -Able to set up for and staff events, including bending, carrying, and lifting heavy (up to 65 pounds) boxes. -Ability to canvass for events or projects, requiring the ability to walk a mile. -Research and problem-solving competency.

Job Schedule and Compensation An intern’s standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with hours dependent upon Big Sky Public Relations’ current staffing needs. An intern will typically work 15-20 hours/week. If necessary, weekend and evening work with be scheduled in advance. Evening/weekend scheduled is often concentrated during weeks our firm coordinates a special event or workshop. All days will be worked in office.

This paid internship is compensated at $10.00 per hour; benefits are not provided.

Internship position are open in both our downtown Missoula, Montana office and our downtown Kalispell, Montana office.
