Code Girls United

Kalispell, Montana

Challenge: Code Girls United is a thriving nonprofit based in Kalispell, Montana, dedicated to expanding career opportunities for 4th through 8th grade girls through hands-on experience in coding, technology, and business. The organization offers after-school programs that teach students valuable coding skills while encouraging teamwork, confidence, and problem solving. As the program’s reach grew, Code Girls United wanted to strengthen its public presence and connect more deeply with communities across the state. They partnered with Big Sky Public Relations to build brand consistency, boost social media engagement, and increase awareness of their mission and student programs.

Approach: Big Sky Public Relations began working with Code Girls United in January 2023 to bring focus, energy, and cohesion to the organization’s communications. The team collaborated with Code Girls United staff to refresh and unify existing materials, create new design elements, and develop branding that reflected the organization’s purpose and impact. Updated colors, graphics, and messaging were introduced across all digital and print materials to ensure a cohesive look and feel that matched the energy and optimism of the program itself.

Alongside these visual updates, our team launched a robust media and social media strategy. Press releases were distributed statewide to highlight the organization’s events and milestones, including the Northwest Regional Competition, the Harlem NW Regional Competition, the MIT App Challenge, and the summer camp series. Consistent posts across Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram shared student stories, upcoming opportunities, and community events such as the Day of Giving and the “Sip, Savor, and Code” fundraiser. Each post reinforced Code Girls United’s message of empowerment and inclusion, creating a steady rhythm of engagement that reached families, sponsors, and partners across Montana.

Throughout the partnership, Big Sky Public Relations worked to amplify Code Girls United’s media presence. The collaboration resulted in strong coverage in local newspapers, online news outlets, and television features that celebrated the students’ accomplishments and shined a light on the organization’s mission. This increased visibility helped reinforce the importance of programs that encourage girls to explore careers in technology and business, sparking enthusiasm among parents and community members alike.

Results: Over six months, Big Sky Public Relations and Code Girls United built a consistent and professional communications foundation that continues to serve the organization today. Through cohesive branding, regular outreach, and meaningful storytelling, the partnership strengthened Code Girls United’s public image and deepened its connection with the communities it serves. The organization’s growing presence in local and regional media reflected a stronger awareness of its mission and expanded interest in its programs.

The collaboration demonstrated how strategic communication and thoughtful design can help nonprofits reach new audiences and sustain long-term engagement. Together, the teams created not only visibility but also momentum for the future of Montana’s young women in technology.
